IR 7.0 Discussion (Part 2)

    I wanted to start over the discussion thread so that people can visit an updated thread and not have to read all of the drama to get information out of it.

    IR 7.0 is in: Beta


    Goals and Opinions

    - Focus on Industrial and Automation
    - Difficulty will be on solving problems and building factories efficiently, not on mobs or hunger mechanics
    - Custom recipes like Infinity Expert
    - Try to not have magic or duplicate mechanics unless said mechanics are different enough to justify having
    - Return of Dynmap on server release
    - Want to figure out a way to reward old donors of IR, I miss the old dancing NPC's of all old donors
    - Less focus on decoration mods, they were getting out of hand with how many we had before
    - Server will have a world border like this old version but hopefully providing enough room to not load everyone
    - There will be a mining world for frame mining machines and other style stuff
    - I'd prefer to remove the nether and allow the resources to be gathered another way. I'd rather allow geo and not have the op nether pools
    - Request for a grave feature might be filled with this mod
    - If one mod is way better at a specific feature than another, then recipes and tech tree will attempt to push it later so all mod items are useful
    - I want a spawn like we had with IR 4.0 (I think it was that), where we had the dome spawn. Something simple but provides everything we need. Also setting up a rail or TP network to getting around the map. Having the server do it is nice but often never gets finished so probably best for me to do it.
    - No quest book system like I tried with PR, I spent 150+ hours on it and no one really used it. I'd rather spend that time on recipes and maybe a 'guide book'.
    - Some OP items are okay, they just need to be late game and require effort to get
    - I want to do 1.8.9 but it appears not enough of the fun tech/automation mods are ported yet so it would be many months. So we are on 1.7.10 for now unless something changes before Beta.
    - I'd rather the focus be on remain in motion frames for automated mining. It requires more thought than just placing down a machine. Not sure if the other options will be available or just expensive to make the frames more desirable.
    - Make IR great again ;)

    PS. One nice thing about GT now if we decide to use it, is it's quick startup time.

    Here is the current mod list. It's currently in Alpha and you can test around on the server or SSP.

    Things to do

    - To Leave Alpha -
    - Test each mod and verify they fit into the pack. This is the time for adding/removing mods.
    Mods to test
    Compact Machines, Mekanism, PneumaticCraft, Remain in Motion Mining Machines, SecurityCraft. I'm also unsure about thermal expansion.

    - To Leave Beta -
    - Complete rebalance of configs and recipes to fit the infinity expert theme, we have Avaritia for the very advanced items. You'll want factories to stock pile our stuff. We have rftools for AE style storage. Some items will be straight disabled if we like enough of a specific mod.
    - Build Spawn
    - Setup Rail or TP network
    - Setup some form of permissions/donor system
    - Setup Mining World
    - One final run through of tech tree in survival to see if it's all ready
    - Map Reset
    - Maybe Video Trailer
    - Promotion
    - Find staff


    Your feedback and help on these and any new points are very welcome. I want to bring IR back to the ways it used to be. A place where people enjoy.

    I really like this idea. I've been off IR for a long time now mostly because the second I logged in I died from hunger/thirst/seriously OP mobs. I'd like to go back to the old days where it was all about who could make the coolest automation.

    My only questions is if the Digital Miner will be available?
    and what kind of mods we would use for cables and processing?

    Otherwise, I like the idea.

    Looks like we could benefit by adding the in-game wiki mod since a few of the installed mods tell you to get more info from it. Just an idea. Also seems pneumaticraft won't work with GT iron, on that note with all the other "mechanical tiered" mods I'm starting to wonder about even wanting GT at all since it seems to mess with the Iron spawning and a lot of the other mods call for iron.

    Do you think it should? If so, do you think it should have the recipe changed or energy cost? If no, why do you think that?

    Right now it's thermal dynamics, GT and mekanism. We are still in alpha so mods are not final. I provided the mod list above on the technic link.

    We don't know if it's causing the iron to be an issue. We should be able to change the spawn weights and such for ores. Also recipes and machine outputs can be changed with minetweaker so I'm not ready to give up on it yet. We are shifting difficulty from mobs and hunger to automation and mining. If ores have value, then a market can have a chance. I don't want it impossible of course.

    Well, maybe? The big thing is getting enough people - if you're going for Greg Tech again (I do miss that face-hurting difficulty), you gotta post about it on all the Greg Tech forums. The community this server attracts is the reason to play on this server. Put some of those lovely high-resolution pictures of fancy industrial landscapes out there.

    Some of these mods sound entertaining. The server loads quickly with these!? It must've been old version Gregtech's fault that things took so long. You've got SecurityCraft, which includes the probably unnecessary security cameras and traps I've been dreaming of for years. You've also got Avaritia, the end game mod that adds incredibly expensive, incredibly OP equipment. This "World Breaker" pickaxe has at least 20 Nether Stars in it, and it mines bedrock with unlimited durability.

    These add additional rooms to the console of the Tardis to allow options for room creations. More than just the standard rooms that are available

    The FoxPotato Project - TARDIS Schema Site was created by the mod author to allow for uploading of custom Schemas that is where I found them. There are more up there but these seemed the most useful to me.

    I have so many opinions! Just what everyone else needed and wanted!:happy:

    • You mention removing the Nether so that geothermal folks don't use the unlimited lava. How do you want to do Nether resources? I know you can already get glowstone from overworld Gregtech ores, villagers, the secret glowstone recipe or the mass fabricator. Will there be nether quartz ore in the overworld? Will you be able to find blazes and ghasts in the overworld, or will you set up a special shop where you can buy their resources from the server? If you're interested in a market, a server shop for a few small items would set up the foundation for an economy.
    • I don't see AE2 or any kind of barrel mod. That might be for the best - I was spoiled by easy storage. Edit: There's a separate storage thing, RFTools, but it looks like it just indexes all of the items in an area. This could be a good balance between no tools and single magic box that stores all your things in a searchable form.
    • If you're thinking about a transportation network, I would vote for teleporters or portals. It's gotta be faster than the jetpack/hang-glider combo for people to use it. Bonus: teleporter/portal nodes are a good secondary place for me to put my vending machines and other sideshow attractions.
    • Communication has been a problem on previous iterations of the server - not everybody's on at the same time. A small open-permissions zone directly around spawn where people could post signs might help - I like the idea of a bulletin board wall being the very first thing you see when you use /spawn. We have the forums, too, of course, but not everybody will use them for these things, and it just feels strange to post "Trying to buy records - message PapaC20X6 for more information" on the forums.

    OK, TARDIS! All it takes to get a TARDIS is four iron ingots and a relatively rare dungeon treasure. Some people will probably live in these - is that good or bad? Edit: To clarify/change tone/something: The polished little mobile base thing is neat; this'll likely be one of my first priorities once I finally get iron (turns out iron takes a long time to get in the current Greg Tech). I want people to have neighbors; maybe someone will open a TARDIS trailer park (complete with electric/gas/sewer hookups).

    Oh, gosh - torches got nerfed. Now you need matches or a flint and steel or something.

    Memory demands are significant - my computer doesn't like looking at that 300 page NEI screen much. Looking at that Compact Machine at spawn also locks my computer up.

    Will there be a server currency, or will we use emeralds/IC coins?

    If Minefactory is added make sure to disable that Sacred rubber tree, it has a diameter of at least 20 chunks and can cause heavy lags due to all that light calculation.

    im just wanna run away and hide at 20k+ coords ^^ like usual

    I myself am for a world border, of course. It cuts down on world gen server load, and it helps people to stay together a little. Things feel lonely enough as it is sometimes on this server.

    Been playing some, having good fun getting thoroughly owned by the new Greg smelting system. It's reminiscent of Terra Firma Craft, only more Greg-flavored. I've died in three(!) separate crucible fires. This is what Gregtech is supposed to be about! LOL

    The new monster AI system is pretty cool, too. Swear I saw a skeleton using a healing tool on zombies last night.
